First KNIME Users Meetup in Dresden

Max-Planck-Institut für Molekulare Zellbiologie und Genetik, Pfotenhauerstraße 108, 01307 Dresden

Dresden is an Eldorado for data mining and many local analysts use KNIME in their day-to-day work. This is why we have put together the first official KNIME Meetup in Dresden at the impressive MPI-CBG building on January 9, 2018.

As a small group of data science enthusiasts and part of the KNIME Community since 2011 — you might have heard of the Selenium and Palladian Nodes — we are very interested in learning about the small and impressive, obscure and obvious discoveries others are doing with KNIME or have developed in the context of KNIME. Our focus is both applications of KNIME, and development of new nodes and their functionalities. Furthermore, if you have recently discovered KNIME and still feel overwhelmed by its endless possibilities, it is a great platform to receive support and advice from experts (or from us).

We are happy to announce that Kilian Thiel from KNIME will talk about recent developments and upcoming features in KNIME. Thereafter, we will give an overview of our development activities. We would also like to hear more about your projects and breakthroughs. Please feel free to contact us in advance to briefly introduce your activities during the meeting. If interest for a specific topic arises during the Meetup, we suggest talking about it afterwards, while enjoying some food and drinks.

We are looking forward to seeing you on January 9, 2018!

Data Science Learnathon: From Raw Data to Deployment

TECHNOPARK, Zurich Technoparkstrasse 1, CH-8005 Zurich

This will be a Learnathon kind of workshop. During this workshop we will cover the whole data science cycle, from the raw data to the final application on a production machine. That is: data access, data blending, data preparation, model training, optimization, testing, and finally deployment. The tool of choice for this Learnathon is KNIME Analytics Platform.

KNIME Analytics Platform is an open, open-source, GUI driven, data analytics platform, that covers all your data needs from data import to final deployment. Being open, KNIME Analytics Platform offers a vast integration and IDE environment for R, Python, SQL, and Apache Spark.

After an initial introduction to the tool and to the data science cycle, we will split in groups. Each group will focus on one of three aspects of the data science cycle:

  • Group 1. Working on the raw data. Data Access and Data Preparation
  • Group 2. Machine Learning. Which model shall I use? Which parameters?
  • Group 3. I have a great model. Now what? The Model Deployment phase

Course for KNIME Server, Berlin - November 2017

Berlin

KNIME is hosting a Course for KNIME Server at the KNIME offices in Berlin, Germany on November 15, 2017. We recommend to combine this course with the 2-day Course for KNIME Analytics Platform held November 13-14, 2017.

Course for KNIME Server dives into the details of KNIME Server and KNIME WebPortal and discusses them from three different points of view: the power user, the administrator, and the end user.
All tools and features designed for each one of these three personas are shown in detail and illustrated by means of interactive sessions and hands-on exercises.

Attendees learn how to exchange workflows and data between the server and the client, how to take advantage of the many server dedicated nodes and features when implementing a workflow, how to set access rights on workflows, data, and meta-nodes, share meta-nodes, execute workflows remotely and from the KNIME WebPortal, and how to schedule report and workflow executions, and more.

The course is designed not only for customers, partners, and the community, but also for anyone interested in finding out more about the KNIME commercial platform and its functionalities.

Discover KNIME in Hands-on Sessions - Australia

- Perth (Oct 10) and Melbourne (Oct 12), Australia

Join KNIME and Forest Grove this October in Perth and Melbourne, Australia, for the Forest Grove Discover Series and get hands on with KNIME Advanced Analytics software. Learn how the open source platform seamlessly cleans and structures data, and integrates with your Business Intelligence function. If you have implemented any data analytics application, even a very simple one, you will know that data cleaning is a huge key to success. Present poor quality, dirty data to the model and the model will produce poor quality, dirty classification/prediction results.

KNIME and the Life Sciences Workshop

- CNAM - Salon d'honneur - 2 rue Conté, 75003 Paris, France

Come to CNAM on October 9 for a workshop on using KNIME for the Life Sciences from 2 to 5.30 PM

In this hands-on course we will use KNIME and a collection of open-source cheminformatics nodes to go through the process of building and validating a predictive model for biological activity using machine learning. We will approach this the way such problems are often solved in "real world" drug-discovery research: starting with a set of data from a primary high-throughput screening experiment we will clean up the data, filter out "undesirable" molecules, generate molecular fingerprints, and then, finally, build and validate a machine learning model. We'll introduce a couple of different learning algorithms and look at optimizing model hyper-parameters for our problem. The focus throughout will be very hands-on and practical.

This workshop is offered free of charge! Participation is limited to 25 people.
