Workflows are created in the usual manner using the KNIME Desktop capabilities. Using an additional node the data is made available as a data source and can now be used in report templates, which are created using the eclipse open source reporting extension BIRT. The tool enables you design report templates containing tables, charts, labels, images, and many other components.

The elements are dragged from a palette view onto the report template page. Each of the components can be configured to customize its appearance. A preview allows you to inspect the final report with a subset of the data from the workflow.

Once the template is completed it can be saved and run. The user can select between 7 export formats. The available formats are: Web Viewer, HTML, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe PDF, and Postscript.
